What does neurodivergence mean

I’m Andrew Brucker, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I live in Los Angeles with my wife and 2 dogs Theo & Harry, who occasionally show their fluffy faces during therapy. I’m neurodivergent, meaning my brain functions a bit differently than other people. More specifically I’m AuDHD, or Autistic with ADHD. My clients say I’m enthusiastic, thoughtful, and goofy. And my biggest goal is to give you a safe space to process difficult things in a confidential, non-judgmental environment. When you need a break we can talk about movies and the latest Trader Joe’s snacks. I believe that connecting with your therapist is such an important part of the therapeutic process and won’t work without it.

I specialize in working with young adults, teenagers, and families, who through the power of mindfulness and communication work to discover their best potential. My favorite population to work with is neurodivergent folks, who are often misunderstood and can really benefit from a therapist they can identify with. Neurodivergent includes but is not limited to, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, sensory processing disorder, and dysgraphia. I treat a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, life transitions, peer relationships, work stress, school/college stress, communication skills, and family issues.

My credentials are a master’s degree from USC’s School of Social Work, experience working for the Department of Mental Health in downtown LA providing therapy to low-income families, and individual and group work at a residential mental health treatment center for adults in Sherman Oaks. I also ran groups at a teen treatment center a few times a week. I have also worked in various schools in New Jersey and in LA and am certified as a School Social Worker.

More about me, is that I love working with people to help them uncover their most authentic self. We will work together to build effective communication skills, identify and deal with tough emotions, and develop and implement healthier boundaries in your relationship with yourself and others.

I take a client-centered approach, fitting the treatment to your unique strengths and style. You will be treated with respect and honesty. I use a combination of Psychodynamic, Attachment, Acceptance and Commitment, Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, and Mindfulness-based therapies.
